Find out everything you need to know about accreditation in the prospectus.

Who can apply for accreditation?

  • You can apply for accreditation if you are a member of Resolution and your membership subscription is up to date.
  • You must also hold a current Practising Certificate issued by The Law Society or by The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).

What will I need to do?

To achieve Resolution accredited status, you will need to pass two assignments:

The Core Assignment: an open-book assignment, taken over a set weekend, which assesses your ability to fulfil the competencies set out in the Prospectus.
Portfolio Assignments: the creation of two portfolios of work to prove you have the knowledge and experience outlined in the Prospectus in two different topic areas. You will have approximately eight weeks to complete the portfolio assignments.

We run two rounds of accreditation each year and you can take the assignments in the same round or separately.

If you take the assignments separately, you must take and pass the Core Assignment before progressing to the Portfolio Assignments. Both assignments must be completed within a three-year period.

What's the Core Assignment?

The Core Assignment is an open book exam, taken over a set weekend. The exam paper contains four case studies, each with four questions. Two of the case studies are mandatory, you must answer the questions for both of those. You can choose which of the other two case studies you will answer. One will be focused on finance, the other on children.

What are the Portfolio Assignments?

Over  eight weeks you will complete two portfolio assignments, each in one of the specialist areas outlined here.

For each specialist area there are two elements to the assignments:

  • A case study with four questions
  • Two reflective case accounts

Note: The eight-week window for completion of these assignments is indicative of the volume of work required. While we will accept late applications up-to two weeks before the final deadline, we cannot extend the deadline and recommend that if your application is made with fewer than four weeks to the deadline, you consider delaying your application to the following round.

Our deferral policy is outlined here.

By purchasing an accreditation product, you are declaring the following: There are no matters affecting my competence or fitness to be held out as an accredited specialist, or which could bring the association into disrepute of which Resolution should be aware.  I have read and understood the information about when and how the papers will be sent to me and how I will be expected to return them and the information about maintaining accreditation. I understand if Resolution does not receive my papers by the specified deadline I will forfeit my fee and I will have to apply again if I wish to become accredited.
